Concealer has already become one of the most essential makeup items but what is it for and how to use it correctly? These are the things we are going to discuss today.
What Is Concealer?
Concealer is a means for masking local imperfections of the skin. The first prototype of the modern concealer appeared in 1928 when American artist and chemist Lydia O'Leary created a foundation to hide a large birthmark on her face. Fourteen years later, Helena Rubinstein approached the problem from a different angle and came up with a product to mask burns. However, it was Max Factor who created concealer as we know it today. Thus, in 1954, he introduced the first concealer, which immediately became extremely popular among Hollywood divas.
What Is the Purpose of Concealer?
Many people are still convinced that concealers can only help with the dark circles under the eyes. However, this little product can do so much more. As a matter of fact, it helps to hide skin pigmentation and redness, smooth out wrinkles and enlarged pores, even the skin tone, and mask small veins. In addition to that, it is also used to highlight such spots as your forehead and nose bridge while contouring.

What Is the Difference between Concealer and Corrector?
Concealers are often confused with correctors, moreover, many people still believe that these two products are the same thing. In fact, these products sometimes turn out to be interchangeable because corrector is also a means of masking skin imperfections. However, there are several significant differences between them.
Concealer has a light translucent texture and blends seamlessly with any other foundation. Unlike corrector, it can be applied to larger areas of the face such as the T-zone. As a rule, correctors have a denser and thicker texture and they are used pointwise to correct more serious imperfections like acne and acne scars. Just like foundation, concealers come in all shades of nude but correctors can be green, yellow, and even purple. Correctors dry skin while concealers moisturize it. Concealer is applied after or instead of foundation, correctors, on the contrary, are applied before.
