Foundation is the very thing that can both ruin your makeup and make it flawless. So how to choose the foundation that will flatter you? Here is a little guide.

Select a Good Brand

First things first, you need to know that foundation is the very thing you should never save on. Cheap foundations badly blend and start smudging on your face by the end of the day. In addition to that, their color palette includes only a few shades, which makes it difficult to find the right shade for your skin color. Finally, low price means cheap ingredients, which are pretty often allergens, so using these products might be dangerous. Therefore, it’s best to go with a more expensive brand than using a cheap alternative.

Find the Right Shade

This is the most important step since finding your perfect shade is actually pretty challenging. Many people try various shades of foundation on their wrists and choose the one that fits the skin tone on their wrists. This is, obviously, a big mistake because once they apply the foundation on their face, they notice that the color doesn’t fit. So you want to try the shades only on your face as well as check out how it looks in different lighting. You can also go to a store like Sephora and ask a shop assistant to help you select the right foundation shade for you.

Figure Out What Level of Coverage You Need

There is no universal type of coverage since different skin types need different coverage levels. For example, if you need foundation to cover scars or acne, you will most likely need a full-coverage foundation. In case you use foundation to even your skin tone a little bit, you can totally go with a sheer one. So choose the one that fits your skin the best.

Don’t Forget About Your Skin Type

Your skin type is as much important as your skin tone. For instance, a foundation for oily skin will not work for dry skin simply because it wouldn’t properly blend. In case you have oily skin and you use a foundation for normal or dry skin, your face will look oily and sweaty. It’s also not a good idea to use matt foundations on dry skin since most likely your skin will start peeling.

Consider the Seasons

In summer we spend more time outside and our skin tans, which is why you need a darker shade of foundation for this season. At the same time, by winter our tan disappears, so we have to use a lighter shade. Therefore, as you might have already guessed, you need two different foundations for summertime and winter.

Wrapping Up

Finding the right foundation is challenging indeed but once you find your perfect shade and type, you can be sure that your makeup will always be flawless. Therefore, go ahead, find your perfect foundation and wear fabulous makeup every day.
